Window Shop Pinoy Lab: Filipino Pride and Ninoy Aquino

Last August 21, Manila celebrated Ninoy Aquino Day commemorating the 29th anniversary of Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino's death in Manila International Airport (now Ninoy Aquino International Airport) - an event symbolic of the Filipino's freedom from then President's Ferdinand Marcos Martial Law. His martyrdom led his wife Pres. Corazon Aquino to lead hundreds in the EDSA People Revolution on February 22 to 25, 1986, three years after Ninoy's death.

Meanwhile, I was enjoying the four-day long weekend and trooped over to Eastwood Mall where I spotted Pinoy Lab from Bench, a store that carries Filipino-themed merchandise from T-shirts, slippers, bags, and other accessories. The window display celebrated the games we used to play as children - patintero, tumbang preso, and trumpo.

Inside, the walls were decorated with images from Intramuros and the cabinets were adorned with other symbolic visuals such as the jeepney, even the mamang sorbetero "ice cream man".

I really liked the chalk board drawings on the walls and how the white panels sort of created a 3-D effect. The merchandise cabinets were simple but cleverly displayed the merchandise to showcase the T-shirt prints.

This post is dedicated to Mr. Ninoy Aquino, a true National Hero. Maraming salamat po!

Pinoy Lab is located at the Ground Floor in Eastwood Mall.
